One reason I love blogging is this small space in the world houses so many important moments and times in my life. While I blog about several topics on health and wellness, there is something interesting about seeing a behind-the-scenes view. Heck, that was how blogging started and has morphed into something much different- but I digress.
Last Wednesday I decided to take pictures and document my day. When I look back at other Day in the Life posts, they have certainly changed as Mitch has grown and my career has shifted to running my own companies to working outside of the house. So, without further ado, let’s jump into Tuesday.
4:30 AM: Alarm goes off and I immediately hit snooze.
4:47 AM: OK, ok, I am getting up. Head into the bathroom and change into my workout gear.
4:58 AM: Pour myself a small glass of iced coffee, grab my gym bag and head out the door.
6:19 AM: Workout done! Time to head home and get ready for the day.
6:32 AM: Arrive home, say good morning to Phil and catch up for a few minutes. He heads out for work and I head upstairs to get ready.
6:47 AM: After a much-needed shower, I am in the middle of drying my hair when I hear Mitch on the monitor. In minutes he’s up and reading books on his chair. Ever since we converted his bed, there’s little to keep him out. Fortunately, he loves his books and toy cats, which keep him occupied for a few minutes.
6:50 AM: And what do you know, within minutes he’s in my room greeting me, “Good morning, Momma!” Kills me.
7:02 AM: Each morning is different, some days we get up and eat right away, others he is sleepy so we move slowly. But today, he was ready to play. We go back to his room and spend 10 minutes driving cars around his room – he is in heaven.
7:21 AM: We head downstairs. Mitch says he isn’t hungry, but I know he needs something in his belly. After offering a few options, he settles on Chex and raspberries. I set him up in his highchair and pack up yogurt and oatmeal for school. I know he will be starving in one hour.
7:38 AM: I’m starving, so I make breakfast. Mitch loves to watch me make breakfast, his favorite being when I crack eggs. I whip up a protein pancake with a pumpkin twist (add in a tablespoon of pumpkin puree, cinnamon and nutmeg) and chat away with Mitch.
7:46 AM: Mitch and I enjoy breakfast together. I love our mornings together. They are fast and furious, but our one-on-one time is so special.
7:53 AM: Realize we are running late, so I clean up and we hustle upstairs to finish getting ready. I get Mitch dressed and resort to the minimalist make-up look with a light foundation, blush, eye-liner and mascara and call it good. My eyebrows catch my eye and I note to make an appointment. Gah.
8:03 AM: OK, we are 15 minutes late, but I need to slow down and ensure I have everything Mitch and I need for the day. I grab my bag, lunch, coffee, water and coat. Then Mitch’s bag, his breakfast, a replenishment diapers and his craft project for school.
8:07 AM: Everyone and everything is in the car, we’re off!
8:15 AM: Arrive at school and try to bring everything inside. Mitch loves his school and does so well in the morning transitioning – thank goodness. I turn in his project, put his coat and bag on his hook, set him up with breakfast (which he promptly digs into) and give him a kiss. Time to head to work!
9:05 AM: Fortunately, the commute was decent, so I arrive at my parking structure and then make my one-mile walk into my building. Finally here.
9:15 AM: Morning kick-off meeting that takes place each day.
10:00 AM: Grab some water and an apple and start working on the final touches of the 2017 plan.
11:00 AM: Conference call. I have a wireless headset, so I stretch twice during the call when I am not leading.
12:00 AM: I check in on Mitch through his school app. Looks like another fun day at school!
12:09 AM: Work through my email and try to get a few things off my plate that take less than 10 minutes. I find that if I put parameters on my day and block out time to work on projects, I am more effective. After 30 minutes, I wrap what I am working on and step away from my desk.
1:30 PM: The rest of the day is a repeat of the morning: coffee, meetings, work and a few check ins with Mitch.
6:27 PM: Arrive home! Dinner is under way and I grab big hugs from all of my boys. Phil has a meeting to attend, so it’s a quick meal that went unphotographed. We say goodbye and goodnight to dad as he heads out.
6:45 PM: More play time. We move from trains to trucks to alphabet magnets to the Lion King. It’s a mad dash to kee up!
8:15 PM: Clean, dressed and ready for bed! Mitch picks out three books each night that we read in the rocking chair under his special blanket. This is hands down the best part of the day. Some nights he’ll let me read the story the first time through and then he’ll read. When did he get so old?!
8:47 PM: Change into my comfy clothes and scoop out a bowl of cookies and cream ice cream.
9:35 PM: Phil arrives home and we catch up for a few minutes. I am whipped and it’s not long after that I’m headed upstairs to get ready for bed. Time to put away clothes, wash my face and finish my nighttime routine.
9:53 PM: In bed and lights out!
