First, I would like to thank everyone for your kind words and messages on my announcement last week. I am really excited to be a part of this program.
With the start of my schooling brings about the question of time management. I have noticed that although I have eliminated 90 minutes of commute time, I am home and have less stress, my 24 hr day now feels like 12. How has my day become filled…and then some?!
In order to be most effective, I need to focus on time management. Going back to basics and setting goals, time-frames and using some simple tools is always a great place to start.
First, start with a planner (hard or electronic) and write out what you do in a day. Much like a food journal, writing down what we do can bring awareness. After a few days, look for patterns. Is there any redundancy (ex. doing laundry throughout the week instead of a dedicated day), are there any open pockets (spending your lunch break on a walk to squeeze in some exercise)?
Another great way to be more efficient is to identify your top priorities and goals. Putting your energy towards these will help you move towards your accomplishments, which in the end makes us feel productive.
Finally, break your to-dos into steps. A lot of the time, we can get overwhelmed and then don’t start or don’t finish. Look at the goal and break it down into projects, steps and an attainable time frame to complete everything.
So, there you have some of my best tips. Tell me, what are some of your favorite tips to get through the day?
