2017 was a rollercoaster of a year: I started a new job, found out baby two was on the way and celebrated my 10 year anniversary with Phil all on the same day. That was how we started the year. The months that followed were some of the best of my life. We traveled, soaked up the joy in little moments, watched Mitchell grow, laughed and found a beautiful grove – all the while, my belly grew, and grew.
There were plenty of downs as well including a pregnancy scare and, well, the news.
But all in all, 2017 was in a nutshell FUN!
The beginning of a new year is a quiet time for me. While others are out tackling goals, my plan of attack is always reflection, meditation and vision. All three steps lead me to setting my goals for the new year.
Today I wanted to share some of the best from 2017. I have been compiling this list for months and am so excited to finally share it with you guys! This is a (non sponsored) review of all of my favorite products that I either bought or received in 2017. I kept adding more and more products, so eventually divided the post into categories so it is easy to navigate. But they were all knock-outs that are musts!
Soap and Glory Body Butter – Hands-down the best lotion of all time. The lotion has a faint scent that is really pleasant; fresh and light. But the formula of this lotion is unlike any other. Thick, but literally melts into your skin and stays put leaving your skin hydrated and smooth. There is not a day that goes by that I do not use this lotion. Perfect for the winter weather, too!
L’occitane Oil – OK, I love this oil year-round, but you cannot beat the results in the cool, winter months. If you haven’t tried an oil, please do. And don’t worry, you won’t feel like a grease monkey. The oil penetrates your skin when you apply post shower and locks in moisture. I used this religiously during both pregnancies and have escaped all stretch marks. So good!
Murad Face Wash – Being in my thirties I’m all about my skin health. (I only wish I would have started a bit sooner!) Murad face wash is a super gentle wash that keeps my normal skin balanced, void of breakouts and really clean. It is my favorite go-to daily wash morning or night. I highly recommend checking out the line as they have several options for different skin types. Also, I love to remove my make-up first with either the Make-Up Eraser (miracle item!) or Boscia Break-Up Oil that breaks up your makeup like magic. Both are really gentle but do an awesome job and removing makeup so your cleanser is actually cleansing your skin.
Brown Boots – This year I was on a mission to find a good pair of brown booties. I first spotted the perfect pair in one of Julia’s instagram posts. First, she’s the cutest new mom and second, so down to earth and messaged me right away with the deets. Within minutes I had the boots Paypaled and on their way and they haven’t left my feet since. Last year I snagged black booties as a staple, but fell in love with the brown bootie look, especially paired with jeans and winter white sweaters (<– so good).
APL Shoes – The perfect workout shoe (IMO). This shoe has a lot of hype, but I have found they live up to their name. The fit is awesome, with a lightweight feel and style that cannot be beat, this shoe wins hands down in the fitness category.
Nordstrom Moonlight PJs – It is not nice to have favorites, but this one takes the cake. And yes, they’re pjs. But hear me out, these are not your average pajamas. They’re soft, like crazy good soft, but structured. The pants do not move up to your thigh while you sleep and the fabric is light enough for the spring but warm for winter, too. I snagged a pair during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and begged Santa for a second pair – now I can rotate and never come out of these drops of heaven.
Lululemon Align Pant II– Mamas, this one if for you. The Align Pant II, a super stretchy legging this is most comfortable thing ever and manages to suck you in at the same time. I sized up one size while pregnant, but ended up buying a second pair postpartum because I loved them so much. I wear them constantly, and they’re great for travel too!
Barefoot Dreams Robe and Cardigan – I couldn’t pick just one! Barefoot Dreams products are so soft and cozy, but hold their shape so you don’t look like a frumpy fluff ball. When I come home it is usually a dash to put on comfy clothes, now I grab this every time. If you watch my Instastories you’ve seen me in this on more than one occasion! No shame.
Yeti– Phil gifted me a Yeti a few years ago and I was completely clueless to the travel mug. Now I live for the mug; it actually keeps my coffee hot, not warm, hot, for hours. It is also perfect for smoothies as it keeps drinks cold and does not sweat. Phil was ‘borrowing’ my mug on the daily, so we now have a few to keep our relationship on the up and up.
Nespresso and Milk Frother– You may catch onto a theme here…coffee is one of my favorite drinks that has taken on another life form around here. While I love a good trip to Starbucks, enjoying a cup of coffee at home in pjs cannot be beat. The Nespresso makes ah-ma-zing coffee and espresso. I opted for the milk frother and you guys, this is the game changer. There are no words for the rich espresso and freshly whipped foam that comes together in your own kitchen.
Lifefactory Water Bottle– I have been a S’Well Bottle loyalist for years, but last week I picked up a Lifefactory bottle on a whim at Whole Foods because it was on sale. Being able to open the straw quickly to drink without having to unscrew a top has been so helpful, especially when there’s a baby in my arms
RX and Think Thin Bars – This year was all about the bars. While meal prep is one of my favorite ways to stay on track with eating, I often grab a bar for a breakfast option on the go or afternoon snack. RX Bars were everywhere this year and I have to say, the Pumpkin flavor took the, err, pie. Think Thin peanut butter is like a treat that is filled with protein. Pair with a cold brew and you’re in heaven.
Chameleon Cold Brew Coffee – Yes, coffee again. But this was enjoyed on the regular this year. The coffee is strong but not bitter, perfect for all taste buds. Paired with a splash of almond milk, I sipped away on this cold coffee all summer long.
Trader Joe’s (fresh) Green Goddess Dressing – holy smokes, get your hands on this! The dressing is fresh and filled with herbs, spices and avocado, so obviously it is killer. The dressing is really out of the box for me, but I am obsessed and actually grabbed two bottles during my last visit for fear of running out. The dressing is thick, so a little goes a long way, which is perfect for keeping portions in check. I love to top my kale salad with this hearty dressing and then add in chicken, peppers and apples. Trust me and give this one a whirl.
Gratitude Journal – Hands down the best investment I made in my mental health last year. Five minutes to pause, think, and reconnect with your goals, gifts and priorities in life. You guys, I need to do a follow up post on this because honestly, this journal was so impactful last year, I have dug even deeper already in 2018 – more on that soon!
Kindle App – Lately I’ve reprioritized my time and made space for books. While I prefer to hold a bound book, my arms are currently filled with eight pounds of sweet baby, so I use the Kindle app. With this on your phone, you can read at any time. I’ve pulled back on scanning other social sites and spent 5- 10 minutes reading instead and I am calmer, less foggy and honestly, happy.
Finding out we were expecting.
