Good morning, friends.
I had all intentions of sharing my birthday weekend with you yesterday, but, the weekend did not quite go according to plan. In fact, there were so many twists and turns to the weekend of celebrations that it felt appropriate to share my birthday weekend bloopers.
First, let me say, in thirty years I have had snow on my birthday every year outside of four years. In the days leading up to my birthday on Saturday the temperatures were in the fifties and snow wasn’t even on the radar.
Saturday was my birthday and the day started wonderfully; kisses and hugs from my boys. Phil made me breakfast while Mitch and I played. I was then treated to breakfast in bed.
We all looked out the window and noticed that the predicted 8″ of snow had started to fall.
After Mitch’s morning nap, we all suited up and headed outside to play. Well, Mitch, like his mom, is not a huge fan of show. Either that or all of the gear overwhelmed him because it took a good ten minutes for him to warm up to the white stuff.
Please note, these pictures are the semi-smiles caught between the fussing. Even the blue sled could not win this kid over. To be fair, the snow was coming down at an alarming rate. After a few more minutes of effort, we called it and headed back inside.
I ran out for a manicure and pedicure, one of my birthday treats, that was heavenly. However, once I left, over five inches were on the ground. Have you ever left a nail salon after a fresh pedicure with five inches of snow? It doesn’t work well.
I made it home, changed and we packed up for my friend’s house where a bunch of our dear friends were gathered for the football game. At this point the roads were very bad and we were involved in an accident. Luckily everyone is ok. But we spent a lot of time with the police and trying to deal with the situation.
In the end, we ended up completely missing the party.
The accident threw us off, but we ultimately decided to make the best of the night. Phil and I went out to a wonderful dinner followed by a movie – something we have not done since Mitch was born.
I completely flopped and neglected taking pictures because my mood was a bit off from the day. But, I was so grateful for a night out with Phil. And despite the trouble it gave us earlier in the day, the snow left a beautiful blanket on the city.
While it wasn’t the birthday I had planned thanks to almost a foot of snow arriving in 12 hours, I was happy to spend the day with my favorite boys. And was so touched by all of the lovely notes, cards, messages and videos from friends and family through the day that kept my heart full.
