Morning friends! I know we could always use a few extra days to unplug and spend time with friends and family but I hope you are stopping by the blog today feeling refreshed after a relaxing weekend.
Our weekend was comprised of plenty of a day date, house projects, family time, a cookout with friends, workouts and lots of good food.
It felt as though the weekend started a bit early thanks to the day off that was spent with Phil. We had a few appointments and errands to take care of, so we put them all on one day for efficiency. Taking care of several items on our list felt fantastic and moved at lightning speed without a toddler.
Our day included some fun with lunch, a trip to Nordstrom and Home Depot.
That night Phil started painting in our remodeled closet and master bathroom. Over the last two months we’ve completed the major construction projects and are now working on the paint, trim, and finishing touches before we officially move back into our room. I am literally counting down the days! There is work to do in several areas of the house as we had three major construction projects take place, but are focusing on the master since the other rooms can’t move forward until that space is complete.
(The master bathroom is 99% done as of Sunday night!! And I am hopeful we’ll be almost done with the closet by next weekend. )
The day started with a quick morning work interview, which lead to a slow morning around the house playing trains. I lost all motivation to workout and skipped my usual grocery run in favor of hanging around the house. By mid-morning, Mitch and I had packed up and headed out to give Phil time to work on the house. Mitch and I first swung into Starbucks for a much needed coffee followed by a haircut for him and stop into Whole Foods.
Our trip was cut very short when the building suddenly lost power. The plan was to do some shopping and then enjoy the hot and cold bar, but our plans were foiled. We walked over to Panera and dug into lunch before heading home.
Not even 10 minutes from home, Mitch fell asleep. I’m telling you, he has a serious talent for crashing just before we make it home. My hope was to transition him into his bed, which just did not work. The next few hours were spent fighting with a very tired boy to nap and let me leave it at – he won.
Despite having a very sleepy toddler who was clearly desperate for a nap we forged forward. My sister and brother-in-law hosted their semi-annual Pims Cup Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The party was in full swing when we arrived, though looking a bit different than usual with kids dominating the events over yard games.
Per usual we feasted – walking tacos, salad, hot dogs and brats kept everyone full and happy through the night. Our girlfriend Claire came with her new puppy Ghee who stole the show most of the party.
Once the crowds cleared a bit and kids settled down, some of the guys started up a game. My how things have changed.
I have to mark this day in history, because it is one of the few days the entire family slept in!!! Mitch started rolling around a few minutes before 8am and I had to do a triple take at the clock. He has never been a kid to make up for lost sleep, but (as we suspected) he actually did this day.
Waking up late was a bit disorienting. Though I tend to take Sundays off from workouts, I decided to get one in hoping to help me shake the groggy feeling. The guys headed to Trader Joe’s for a few items and we all met back after for a big breakfast.
Once our bellies were full, Mitch and I packed up for the park and splash pad. We met up with my Lindsay, Phil, Natalie and Everett and watched as the kids ran around the splash pad enjoying the relief from the heat. We’ve been experiencing temperatures in the high eighties with 90 percent humidity. It’s been verging on miserable as the pool or air conditioning are the only forms of relief.
The late morning slipped by and soon we said our goodbyes to head home for Mitch’s nap.
Once again, he was exhausted but would not go down. Finally, after an hour of failed attempts, I sat and rubbed his back until he fell fast asleep. I was beyond exhausted from Saturday and the heat from the morning and found myself down for a nap as well. There is something so wonderful about napping on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
In the late afternoon, Phil’s mom Kathy arrived and we spent time catching up before heading out to dinner to end the weekend.
The weekend ended with a few of Kathy’s homemade chocolate chip cookies while watching Michael Phelps vs. the Shark. So good! And with that, we are into another week!
I hope you all had a great weekend!
