Yesterday may have been Father’s Day, but I feel like we all enjoyed the day to the fullest. After a crazy week living out of suitcases, it felt so good to be back in our house. The beginning of the weekend was filled with cleaning following the construction. When Sunday rolled around- we were ready to celebrate and get out of the house!
The morning started a little later thanks to Mitch sleeping in. We had friends over Saturday night, which kept is up and Mitch entertained. When we made our way downstairs, Phil was greeted with a few treats to start the day.
Believe it or not, Phil selected the organic restaurant thanks to their amazing breakfast burrito that won him over on our first visit. I ordered a little of everything for the table and we happily dug in.Once we were full, we headed out to our next stop- the zoo. The predicted storms were holding out, so we forged forward and ended up with perfect weather.
Our first stop once in the zoo was a train ride. I hope I never forget Mitch’s face and excitement when he spotted the train, which never faded through the entire ride. With tickets in hand, we boarded and road the train to the back of the zoo. At first we only road for Mitch’s love of trains, but the station drop off was perfect because it eliminated the long walk in.
Soon after, we were persuaded to take another train ride, which landed us back at the front of the zoo and next to the new penguin exhibit. The space is seriously amazing and we arrived just in time for their lunch. The penguins dove into the water over and over, which was rediculous cute and entertaining. We stayed in the exhibit for some time watching the penguins and learning about the various breeds.
As the afternoon wore on, we had to pull a reluctant boy away from his fun. But knew we were on borrowed time.
And wouldn’t you know, not even ten minutes from home, Mitch fell asleep.
Fortunately, he transferred into bed and slept for almost four hours! My parents were in town and came over to see the work in our house and visit. It was so wonderful to see them and celebrate Father’s Day with my dad as well.
The day ended with steaks, asparagus and corn on the cob followed by prep work because, you guessed it, more construction tomorrow! Haha.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and Father’s Day!
