Good morning, friends!
I hope this post finds you happy and excited for the day. Is anyone still hustling to finish their shopping? Baking or cooking up a storm?
My shopping is done and now I am working on a few last items that need to be wrapped by ‘Santa’ for the wee one. Then I am tackling packing as we are spending the holiday with our families.
Today I wanted to do a little holiday survey post to share with you all of my Christmas traditions and favorites. Be sure to jump in down below in the comments!
Egg Nog or hot chocolate?
Humm, I am more of a coffee and tea girl, but I would have to pick hot chocolate. Can we add a little Bailey’s?
Does Santa wrap presents or just set them under the tree?
He most definitely wraps them! Santa had special paper and his gift tags would be written in special hand writing, very authentic.
Colored lights on tree/house or white?
White lights on the tree and outside outlining the house. I am all about the classic look. Phil loves colored lights but of course, I trump. 😉
When do you hang your decorations up?
Usually the weekend after Thanksgiving. We travel to one of our parent’s house so we aren’t home to do so on Thanksgiving weekend like most people.
What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Honestly, I don’t have one. For holiday dinners I eat turkey or chicken, steamed vegetables and a sweet potato. Very similar to a standard meal around these neck of the woods. I am not a fan of casseroles, stuffing, scalloped potatoes, etc. Can’t I just list my favorite dessert?
Favorite holiday memory as a child?
My favorite holiday memory is going to midnight service on Christmas Eve. We would go over to my grandma’s house for dinner and then head to church. Because it was at midnight we would light candles and sing Silent Night. It was such a moving and magical time. I would get goosebumps every year. We would then go home and get tucked into bed and hope Santa would come before we awoke in the morning.
What is on your Christmas wish-list?
To enjoy Christmas with Mitchell. And spend time with my family, rest, relax and re-focus for a happy and amazing 2017. Oh, and a Nespresso and computer.
Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Not technically. Phil and I have our own Christmas celebration a day or two before the holiday. We go out to dinner and then come home and open gifts.
How do you decorate your Christmas tree?
With white lights, red, gold and silver balls and ornaments we have collected (we buy one each year to commemorate the big thing we did and have one for every place we have traveled in the US and Europe) and some from our childhood.
Snow? Love it or dread it?
Such a love/hate relationship. Here in Michigan, we get A LOT of snow! I grew up in the top of the state where we had snowbanks higher than we are tall. So, I am used to snow and love when it is a beautiful white coating. However, when we get arctic blasts and ice creating a dangerous condition for driving, I am not a fan at all.
Real tree or fake tree?
Real! We cut one down each year.
Do you remember your favorite gift?
I remember getting my American Girl doll (Samantha) and the Angelina Ballerina books. Oh, and my new pair of ice skates one year.
What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?
Family and tradition.
What is your favorite holiday dessert?
My mom’s cut out frosted cookies. They are an annual staple that I look forward to. I love the shapes, colors and the taste cannot be beat!
What is your favorite Christmas song?
I don’t know that it is my favorite, but I love singing the Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas songs. When I was a kid my brother, sister and I would sing them while decorating the tree. My parents had the cassette tape!
I have always loved Carol of the Bells. I actually just love an choir-style Christmas music in general during the holidays. And Silent Night always gets me.
Favorite Christmas Movie?
Christmas Vacation! A classic that makes several appearances through the holiday season. Oh, and I laugh every time.
What do you leave for Santa?
Milk and cookies and carrots for the reindeer.
Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?
Christmas mornings we open stockings and gifts and have a special breakfast together.
Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall?
A mix. I like to walk around and see items but other items I order online.
Christmas letter or Christmas card?
Christmas cards! I love to see all of the sweet faces of my friends.
Your turn! Tell me about your holiday traditions. Answer any of the questions above.
