Today my friend Meg is taking over the blog! I have always admired her sense of style and today she is sharing how to wear your workout gear as a fashion statement. I love this because who doesn’t want to wear yoga pants all the time?! With out further ado…..
Hello, and thank you to Brynn for inviting me to be a guest blogger. I’m excited to be here! You can normally find me on my own blog, Meg Loves Style, where I write mostly about fashion and style but also touch on some of my other interests including home decor, food, and health and fitness. For me, fashion isn’t about the expensive looks that come down the runway during Fashion Week, it’s really just about putting great looks together with affordable pieces that fit my lifestyle and budget.
That said, since this is a healthy living blog, today on BalancingB I thought I would talk athletic wear – specifically athletic wear as every day fashion. Have you all noticed that the sporty trend is having a big moment right now? I’ve especially been loving the look that so many people are doing with a great track or jogger pant incorporated into an everyday outfit. I’ve been seeing it all over the place – on celebs, in fashion magazines, and in the blogging world – like here, here and here. It can go from a light workout, to casual errands, to dressed up for a night out (yes, seriously). The track pant has been on my fall fashion wish list, and as luck would have it, I’ve also been in need of a new pair of workout pants for my regular workout wardrobe. So I thought I would search out a fun pair of track pants to feature here and then put together a few ideas of how you can wear the trend yourself.
To find the pants, I decided to check out Athleta because I’ve noticed in their recent catalogs that they have some really interesting things right now. I had never actually visited a store because the closest one to me is a bit of a drive but I carved out some time one afternoon to go check things out. It gave me a chance to see things up close, feel the fabrics, and try things on for fit and comfort.
I ended up finding some great items that do a really good job of straddling the line between fitness and every day wear. Their “To-Fro” items are actually designed specifically in mind for wearing to and from fitness activities or just for every day. The pieces I found all fit really well, were very soft and comfortable, and just seemed to provide a more unique and stylish look than your traditional workout wear.
As for the track pant I was looking for, after trying on several different options I decided on the Aspire Ankle Pant in Flint Grey from Athleta’s City Pant collection. These pants are made of a really lightweight and almost silky feeling material that, as the Athleta web site says, can “…go from gym to glam on the fly.” They have an edgy sort of zipper detail on the front pockets (perfect for stashing a driver’s license or key when working out) and a really neat drawstring element on the leg bottoms that allows you to wear the pants full length or to cinch them up for a trendier sort of look. They are super comfortable and allow for a lot of movement while still being pretty form-fitting – – a far cry from the old wind pants I used to wear to the gym in college. I’ve worn them a few times already and am really liking them so far.
Now, wondering how to wear these throughout your week for a variety of activities? I’ve snapped some photos so you can see how I’m wearing the trend, but you can also find more inspiration here.
