I’m young, right? So I don’t have to worry about health problems for a few decades.
That’s the way I thought for the first part of my life up until a few years ago. Then one day I realized (that I wasn’t healthy, but on top of that) health is not the mere absence of disease. Health is about feeling good every day and living life! To me, it’s about jumping out of bed in the morning and having a ton of energy and mental clarity.
It doesn’t matter if you’re young, old, can run 10 kilometers or can eat a metric ton of fast food and be stick thin (ahem, my husband). Invest in today and in your future; eat healthy, be kind to your body, make time for friends, and floss your teeth for heaven sakes! You don’t have to drink green juice or go to yoga camp to jump on the healthy train.
You can be healthy, vibrant, in great shape today and at 50 years old (trust me). Cut the refined sugars, the processed foods, the binge drinking every weekend. Let loose every once in a while but don’t make unhealthy practices a routine. We are creatures of habit, so make the right choices and take control of your future.
Eating should be an enjoyable experience, as should working out and life. Find ways to eat for energy (whole foods), exercise that you enjoy and fill your life with positive people and experiences.

My cooking incorporates lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains. I love developing lighter twists on classic comfort foods, without compromising taste. My goal is that your family and friends will never believe you when you tell them that the dish they just tasted is “good for you.” Phil comes in handy for the testing.
- Pick Your Battles: Most of my dessert and baked recipes are healthier than their original versions, but you just can’t deny pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving.
- Celebrate The Season: Not only are seasonal ingredients usually less expensive, but also produce has so much more flavor when it’s been recently harvested nearby. Let’s take advantage, shall we?
- Fuel: Lately, I have enjoyed finding foods that fuel me in the right way through vitamins and minerals and creating a well balanced and rounded meal. I will not lie, I do get caught up some times in the obsessive cyclical nature of ‘not being able’ to eat something or being upset after I have eaten a ‘bad’ food. During one point in my life I struggled with food and I fell victim to living my life by punishing myself for what I was eating. It is difficult to move away from that mentality. I still get upset with myself and constantly look for balance with food, fitness and happiness.
