I have to say “thank you!” Thank you for being amazing when I shared my news and for understanding my brief time away from the blog. As you know, we spent five wonderful days on vacation and when I returned home, I through myself into my family. Literally- I haven’t opened a computer in over a week. And it felt good, realllly good.
There was a lot of stress and tension that I needed to release and spending time with Phil, Mitch and Henry, plus some me time was the remedy. We’ve been playing, working on projects, going to swim class and yoga, I’ve been working out and cooking and reading – ahhh. And logging seven to ten hours of sleep.
I know it’s not everyday we can step away from work for a week, but since I did ha e the rare opportunity, I’m so glad I took it. What a week it’s been! Here are some highlights:
Mommy and Me Yoga and Smoothie Date
Mitch and I have attended a few yoga classes together this year. He’s very interested in exercising as he sees me working out or heading to the gym most days of the week. When I found this adorable studio I thought we’d give it a try and we both love the classes. The class is very loosely based on yoga, just enough to teach basics but keep a toddler’s attention.
This week we hit up the juice bar nearby for fresh smoothies. I absolutely love this time with my little yogi.
Day for Me
One thing I knew I wanted was a day to myself. A day without questions or decisions- a luxury as a mom and VP. But thanks to an amazing husband I was able to spend a few hours out treating myself to a fresh coat of nail polish and my favorite salad place of the moment. I kept my phone away and ate slowly, closed my eyes a few times and took in the peace and quiet.
Mitch’s Half Birthday
Thursday marked Mitch’s half birthday and I was thrilled to have the chance to spoil him all day. Remember my organic smoothie boy…
…well, he is also his father’s son and loves donuts. Phil and Mitch are donut monsters, so I always have an idea of how to win their hearts (sprinkles for Mitch and cinnamon roll for Phil). This kid couldn’t even wait until we were home before digging in.
I spent most of the week and weekend cooking and baking. From old favorites to new recipes to seasonal goods- I whipped up meals every day and it was so much fun. Cooking is something I really enjoy and love to have the time to play around with ingredients.
Fun with Family
Saturday, my sister and her family came over in the afternoon for a playdate and dinner. With our travel and crazy schedule, it’s been too long since we’ve seen the crew! It was so great to see everyone, catch up and watch the kids play. As usual, the night flew by.
Sunday at the Park
Sunday was the first warm and sunny day we’ve seen in a few weeks so we took full advantage. After a slow morning, we headed out to a neighboring town to enjoy their huge playground and share a picnic.
Mitch was in heaven and Phil and I switched between playing and eating as there was no chance we would get Mitch to sit down.
The park was filled with spaces to play, tables with umbrellas and a large field, so we shifted between areas enjoying Mitch and the beautiful day.
The past week was filled with so many highs I feel blessed to have the time and ability to be with my favorite people.
Today I’m starting my new job and I’m equally nervous and thrilled (as to be expected). Wish me luck – I haven’t used an alarm clock in a week and I’m sure I won’t enjoy it. 😉
What was a highlight of your weekend?
