Friday! Who is ready for the weekend (silly question, right?).
The week was a busy one, but included a surprise birthday dinner for one of my best girlfriends. The plan was to meet at one of our favorite places, Pizzeria Bigalora at 6 pm, she had plans to meet one of my other friends at 6:30 pm for dinner. We all made it to the restaurant before her (a miracle) and completely surprised her!
I am telling you, there is nothing like some quality time with friends or family. We spent the night catching up over good wine and food. Oh, and birthday brownies!
Now that winter is behind us and Phil is done with his MBA, it feels as though we’re coming out of hibernation; getting out, seeing our friends and family and spending time outdoors. All things I love.
I started to think about other little things that bring me a surprising amount of joy and thought it might be fun to hear what seemingly small, silly things make you guys oddly happy, too!
A few little things that bring me an odd amount of joy:
Mitch giving me a hug: I cannot put into words how much I melt when Mitch gives me a hug. Those tiny arms wrap around my neck and he puts his head on my shoulder. Don’t even get me started on the kisses.
Group texts with my family: I’ve said it before and I will say it again, my family is seriously hilarious. I love it when a group text spirals out of control and becomes completely ridiculous and hilarious.
Morning Coffee: There is something so peaceful, comforting and relaxing about the process of brewing and sipping a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. Total honesty: there are days when my alarm goes off at 5am for the gym and I coax myself out of bed and to the gym with the promise of a stop for my favorite coffee on the way home.
Leopard Flats: Every time I slip on my shoes I am a bit giddy. They’re fun and sassy – just what I like.
Cousin love: The love all of the cousins have for one another is so sweet. Natalie is a huge hit with Mitch and her patience with him melts my heart. Mitch is equally obsessed with my nephews Bennett and Everett (aka Baby). I was fortunate to grow up spending a lot of time with my cousins, who I adore. Having cousins close is such a blessing.
Looking at old pictures: Isn’t it hilarious to look through photos from just a few years ago. Maybe because my life feels so different from 10 years ago, but I love seeing pictures of Phil and me early in our relationship, times on the figure skating team, college memories and other special moments!
Singing in the car: I listen to music all day long and love a wide variety of music, but there is nothing like your jam coming on and belting out at the top of your lungs. Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce and Madonna are some of my all time favorites.
Baby clothes: honestly, there’s nothing cuter. Tiny clothes that are soft and sweet. Don’t get me started on baby jeans – die!
Visiting the library: I used to visit the public library regularly when I was growing up and my love for libraries has stayed with me as an adult. I love browsing for a new book and enjoy the quiet, warm atmosphere. (Bonus points if I can check out the book I want to read immediately and don’t have to wait on a long wait list!)
What is something simple that brings you an unusual amount of joy?
What are you doing this weekend?
