Good morning, friends!
I hope you all had a great start to the week. Mine got off to a slow start as the weekend completely wiped me out. I decided to spend the day working and hunkered down to write a few posts to answer your questions. I love hearing from you and want to not only answer your emails, but share with everyone – you never know who may have a similar question out there!
Today I am talking non-dairy alternatives. As you know, these milk alternatives are all the rage and are everywhere from supermarkets to Starbucks. Whether you’re allergic to cow’s milk, have a sensitivity to lactose or just chose to forgo for other reasons you have a ton of options on the market today. But, it can be a bit confusing. So, I thought we could walk through it together!
Almond milk is my go-to milk alternative. I started to cut back on dairy when I started school two years ago and learned about the additives that were in our dairy supply along with the hormones that were being fed to cows. When I became pregnant I really took to heart what I was eating as it was going beyond my health to my baby. Almond milk is my choice because it is creamy, slightly sweet and works in almost situations where dairy is needed. I am not thrilled by coconut milk, there is nothing wrong with it, just not my preference. And soy milk can get tricky as soybeans are a highly genetically modified organism, so you want to be extra careful with soy milk or products.
With all food we are consuming it is always best to make sure you know what you are going to eat. Unless you are making these milk alternatives from scratch, it is possible to have added ingredients, so be sure to read the label!
Have questions, send them my way!
