Over the weekend Phil and I went to Eastern Market; a huge farmers market that is held every Saturday in downtown Detroit.
We scored some fresh blueberries, heirloom tomatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, fresh eggs, and leafy greens to name a few. But by far the stand out has been the fresh, juicy peaches. I cannot tell you how obsessed we are and am actually panicking at how quickly they’re disappearing. I don’t think I can ever go back to ‘ordinary’ peaches.
With the summer month still rolling I’ve been back on the smoothie wagon . I’ve made quite a few as an afternoon snack, but the addition of oats in this version easily makes it got for breakfast. I’m also loving the simple ingredients. Feel free to add in protein powder or even cottage cheese for more protein. But to me, this smoothie is the perfect nod to summer and kick back to those orange drinks I used to sick down as a kid.
*1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
*1/4 cup rolled oats
*1/4 fresh orange juice
*1 Tbs chia seeds
*pinch of cinnamon
*squeeze of honey, maple syrup or agave
Place all ingredients into a blender and let it go! Blend until smooth and then drink up.
I have also had this smoothie without the oats as an afternoon snack and love it just as much. It tastes like a creamy drink, without the cream or calories. Perfect for those dog days of summer.
