Hi friends and happy Monday! It was a celebration-filled weekend, which means a lot of friends, fun and food in the form of sugar. We spent all weekend playing and enjoying the beautiful weather and wonderful loved ones.
Thursday was Phil’s birthday, so Mitch and I got to work and planned a full day of his favorite things. Starting with warm cinnamon rolls and coffee to start the day. Phil loves breakfast sweets, so I figured it was a sure win. We also treated him to one of his gifts, birthday card and song.
Now that Phil and I work at the same company, we are able to spend a little time together. And it couldn’t have been better timing to start my job the week of his birthday. Around noon, we headed to lunch and were able to spend time talking – alone. Parents, you know what a treat that can be!
The celebration continued at home with Phil’s favorite dinner followed by cupcakes made with my sous chef, Mitch.
Friday ended up being a short day and we easily rolled into the weekend with a relaxing dinner at home and DVR time.
Saturday was packed with a early morning trip to the gym, shop at Trader Joe’s, errands and lunch. Before we knew it, Mitch was up from his nap and we were en route to our friend’s son’s second birthday party.
My girlfriend Lindsay has two sons, one older and one younger than Mitch by six months. Their last party was a ton of fun as it included a bounce house – and this party delivered as well! My jumping machine of a son spotted the bounce house and was off like a rocket. He spent a majority of the party in the bounce house or running around the yard playing with toys and the other kids.
We spent the time visiting with our friends and enjoying the amazing food. Lindsay and her husband are phenomenal cooks, so it is always a treat to eat at their house. With the sun out and temperatures reaching the high sixties, it was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.
Sunday started the same way: workout, big breakfast and then off to birthday party number three! My other girlfriend Lindsay (yes, two Lindsays!) and her husband Adam threw their daughter Norah a party at a local kids play area. The space is decorated to reflect the history of Michigan and is one of the coolest kid’s areas I have ever been to. Oh, and they have a full-service coffee bar. Winner, winner!
Mitch once again took off to play with the kids and roamed from room to room exploring and pretending to be a musician in Hitsville USA, drove a car in Motorcity and went camping.
We were all treated to lunch and birthday cupcakes for the birthday girl.
The afternoon flew by with an appointment, blog work because my ‘vacation’ has me behind on the backend and some meal prep. Once Mitch was up from his nap, we all headed outside to run around, play soccer and golf. The weekend wrapped with dinner on the grill and of course, birthday cake.
What was the sweetest part of your weekend? What is your favorite birthday treat?
