If you’ve been following me on Instagram for the past few months then you know I’ve been participating in the Tone It Up plan along with starting their eight week Bikini Series. I have had SOO many e-mails and questions asking me about this program so I thought I’d make a whole blog post about it for you all. It is one of the best investments I have ever made for several reasons.
Tone It Up was started by two best friends who are both (gorgeous!!!) trainers and fitness enthusiasts. Karena and Katrina decided to create a place where they could share their knowledge on how they TOO lost weight and got in shape all while making it fun and motivating in the process! These girls are absolutely incredible, I literally can’t say enough good things about them. They have a huge following on Twitter and Instagram as well and are very engaged with their readers, they love responding to their fans! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve posted pictures of my workouts on Instagram and came home to a “like” or comment by Karena and Katrina. It just makes you that much more motivated knowing that your trainers are checking in, no matter how busy they might be!
The eight-week Bikini Series is a time to focus on creating a healthy, happy self. Over the course of the challenge, you are given a daily plan that includes your workouts (bootycall, which means your morning workout), a sample meal plan and a focus that usually takes place at night. For example, the focus one night could be to connect with a girlfriend, another night may be taking a bath or 10 minutes of meditation.
To be honest, I love TIU for several reasons, but one of the main reasons I love the challenge so much is because it is really a holistic approach to health. Which, if you know me at all, is what I am all about. Health is so much more than a number, size or reflection. Being healthy is about aligning your mind and body, your present with your goals and embracing who you are, today.
Another reason I love the Karena and Katrina is because they focus on positivity. The community (the girls that follow the plan, such as myself) is such an uplifting and supportive group of people. In all honesty, I have never experienced such genuine and sincere support among women.
Basically how the program works is first you join the nutrition plan and you can choose from regular, vegetarian, gluten-free, vegan or pescetarian. Every plan is created specifically around YOUR diet and comes in a PDF form so that you can have it everywhere. I have it on my phone and on my iPad!
When a new plan or challenge comes out, you are automatically sent the latest updates and plans. Now I love all the little details that the plan has, including their tips, food pairing charts and now in this Bikini Series, a daily menu suggestion with recipes.
You truly get your money’s worth and then some, including a lifetime membership to their Tone It Up Community which is pretty much priceless!
OK, onto the results!
Last year I was pregnant for the series and was so anxious to participate this year at six months postpartum. The reason I wanted to join is the same reason (I assume) that other women run half marathons after having a baby; you want to reclaim your body. I don’t mean in the sense of a size or number (at least personally that was not my goal), but rather to get back my strength, endurance and carve out a little me time.
^25 weeks pregnant one year ago.
I followed the eight week program well, but not perfectly. In fact, I wish I would have embraced the nutrition a bit more because I think I would have seen even greater results. I did, however, kill the workouts, knocking out my ultimate goal of 150 miles. (The TIU girls set a goal of 100 miles by June 6th, but some chose to add more). Crossing off the miles was such an accomplishment – I can hardly believe I did it. But I committed to workouts, walks and overall just focused on being more active. And it felt so good after being pregnant last year and now coming out of the winter months.
As I mentioned, I was a bit more lax on the nutrition side, something I now regret a bit. While I did stick to the plan about 80% of the time, I threw caution to the wind at some points when it wasn’t worth it. I am all about enjoying food, treats and eating in moderation! But I am talking about eating something just because it was there. It’s moments like those that I know were silly and unnecessary.
In the end I have lost over a dozen inches, almost half of that number in pounds and feel amazing.
The best part? There was so much success and energy around the eight week Bikini Series challenge this year that Karena and Katrina decided to launch a second round! So yesterday started day one, round two. I am hoping to give it my all this time – combining nutrition, exercise and the daily focus.
A few things that really helped; my journal and checking in. Two tools that help you stay accountable and really open and honest about your success and struggles.
You can always see my updates on Instagram or Snapchat where I share my eats, workout check ins and daily happenings.
So, here we go again!
These thoughts are mine and mine alone. Just sharing my experience, thoughts and sharing! xx
