Well, the sun finally made an appearance and I think everyone in the state of Michigan rejoiced! And we certainly did our part to welcome the warm up, from start to finish we spent almost the entire weekend outside soaking in vitamin D and feeling light hearted and fancy-free!
While Friday night was our standard quiet night in, we were sure to call it a day early knowing the fun that awaited Saturday morning. I started with an early workout and run to Trader Joes in typical Saturday fashion. The much raved about cauliflower rice was finally in stock, which I grabbed for dinner this week!
When I arrived home, I quickly got ready to head out for a playdate. Mitch and I drove about 30 minutes across town to meet up with some of my best girlfriends and their tots for a mom-and-me date at the park.
The day was warming up, which made for the perfect morning to run around sans jackets – hallelujah!
My girlfriends Lindsay, Rachel, and Kate all have boys, so it was a male dominated party. With ages ranging from 2.5 years old down to eight months, we certainly stayed busy and our conversations were short, but it was such a blast. What is it about girlfriends that fill your soul and lift all worries off your shoulders. Add in four very happy boys running around and the sun – well, you can’t get better than that for 10 am on a Saturday! After a few hours, we all said our goodbyes and Mitch and I headed off to refuel. Not far from the park was a small organic cafe that offers a variety of salads, wraps, smoothies and juice. Mitch enjoyed his lunch and I ordered a green smoothie filled with kale, spinach, mango, banana and coconut water that was the perfect refreshment after all of the playing and running.
Mitch ended up falling asleep in the car, but by the grace of the man above transitioned to his crib and took a three-hour nap (his new normal!). I took the time to rest myself and then did a few blog business items before we were all up and ready to enjoy more of the day.
The night was young and we were hungry.
Downtown Plymouth is less than three miles from our house, so within minutes, we were all back in the car and in the middle of town enjoying the fresh air. Everyone in the area had the same idea, so despite our early bird dinner time, there was a wait for a table. No worries when you have a park, ball and huge fountain.
In no time our table was ready. We opted for a favorite, Cellar 849, which makes pizza that reminds us of Italy; the pizzas are thin, crisp yet chewey and the toppings are simple but fresh. There’s nothing like fresh basil!
With a table outside, it really was the perfect setting.
The night ended with a trip to Yogurtpalooza to kick off spring! Sunday morning was considerably slower in comparison, but just what I needed. After brunch, we all found ourselves outside again. We putzed around blowing bubbles, kicking the soccer ball and pulling out the new baseball set. Phil spent time washing the cars and Mitch, being a big helper, jumped in. We ended up on rinsing duty, which he loved.
Despite Mitch’s consistent sleep lately, Sunday just didn’t happen. We called it after an hour of him rolling around in his crib and decided to head out for a late lunch. Well, wouldn’t you know, someone fell asleep as soon as we took off in the car.
Luckily Mitch woke up and we were able to eat lunch together and walk around. It was a quiet afternoon that led into an equally quiet evening that ended with a walk and time on the front porch rocking.
With the windows open we all fell asleep and called it one great weekend.
