First off, thank you for the sweet comments on our Pregnancy Photos! I am so happy with how they turned out.
This whole pregnancy business is no joke. There have been so many changes in my body, energy, workouts, and even eats.
I’ll be honest, I was really nervous about what the 3rd trimester would look like; what I’d be craving, and how I’d feel. I have heard so many stories of women doubling their pregnancy weight gain during the 3rd trimester alone, as it’s a time when the baby begins to gain the weight they need in order to thrive outside of the womb, so I couldn’t help but wonder what my 3rd trimester would be like.
While I definitely have my moments, this first half of my 3rd trimester has been really great. If anything, I feel the most like myself that I have all pregnancy. Sure I have cravings from time to time, but I’ve remained active and have made sure to fuel my body.
So far so good! I am trying to get in four good workouts a week plus walks with Mr. H and I actually find my cravings are WAY down from the first trimester. What I have noticed is that my eating is much different; smaller more frequent meals (even late night) is what works best for me and bebe. As long as I fuel my body with good foods, I don’t crash and crave sugar and carbs.
Here is a look at my eats from yesterday!
I started my day with my favorite breakfast of the summer, a yogurt mess. Basically I add in my Greek yogurt and top it with the fruit I have on hand and then top that with granola. For some added ‘umph’ I drizzled in a tablespoon of Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter. Ummm, yea, that was pretty much the best decision of my life.
A few hours later while working away, I made myself an at-home-coffee with some cold brew, lots of ice and Blue Diamond Honey Almond Milk. I have been looking for this new flavor thinking it would be the perfect addition to coffee, and I was right. The honey adds just a touch of sweetness that is perfect for my cup of joe.
Please don’t tell Phil I had this on the table without a coaster. I swear, those drips didn’t make it to the wood. 😉
If there has been one change in my diet, it is the need for salt. I have been loving salty things for the last eight months, which is totally different from my former tastes and cravings. The miso salmon salad from Trader Joe’s is the perfect lunch to fill you up and hit all of your taste buds. First off, the salad is HUGE! It seems super small in the container, but when I put it on a plate (because I am fancy) I couldn’t believe how much was packed in.
My favorite way to crush my sweet tooth (which has not gone away) is with my afternoon snack. I usually go for something sweeter like fruit with a nut butter, trail mix, a smoothie, energy bites or a granola bar. I snagged a few of these Think Thin bars at the store and they satisfy my sweet craving and fill me up.
My only real cravings have been Greek salads and anything Mexican. And rotating those can get old. So I try and add in just some basic meals throughout the week. I made the chicken, broccoli and quinoa dish topped with fresh herb olive oil, fresh basil and lemon that I shared a few weeks back. So delicious.
Soooo, I many have stayed up to watch the Emmys and then the Real Housewives of OC reunion and my stomach started to grumble. I decided to start with something healthy first before digging into more of a treat. First up, a juicy orange. I also drank a bunch more water.
Followed by my new obsession, Peanut Butter Puffins. Such an awesome snack. These guys are super crunchy and are perfect to satisfy that need.
I have found myself eating less but having more frequent meals, so I try to make sure I am getting in all of my fruits and veggies and of course lots of veggies. When I reach for the good stuff first, I usually don’t have much room left for the foods that lack nutritional value.
