The cold temperatures have been unbearable. Every year I tell myself the winter won’t be as bad as last, and then it is. To be honest, growing up in Northern Michigan, I am accustomed to snow up to my eyeballs that only results in a two hour delay. For me the cold temperatures are the issue – when the weather forecast calls for negatives, I’m like, ‘bye!’.
If you’re noticing dry skin or even breakouts, it could be the winter weather meaning it is time to change up your products and routine a bit. Today I am going to share my favorite products and tricks to beat the cold season with healthy, hydrated skin.
Murad has an awesome, gentle face wash that helps balance your skin. It is awesome year round and is my ride or die face wash! The consistency is creamy and feels so great on your skin.
5 in 1 Bouncy Mask is great because it plumps your skin, so use this in the morning. Put it all over your face – go ahead and pile it on! Oh, it also helps diminish crows feet. The First Aid Beauty line is amazing, I love all of their products in the winter.
To exfoliate, use something really gentle. While you may want to rub all of the flakes off, you need to be gentle. The Clarisonic is perfect to lightly remove dead skin (I use this with my Murad face wash in the morning). If you want a little scrub, go for one with small beads like the Tata Harper scrub.
Scrubbing your lips is a step I do not skip! I don’t know anyone who is down for flakey lips, and forget it if you’re trying to wear lipstick. Gently apply a layer as you would gloss then rub your lips together to exfoliate. You can also use your finger or gently rub a towel over your lips to scrub and then wipe clean.
Now that your lips are smooth, apply a super hydrating gloss. The Rosebud Salve is the perfect slip and adds a bit of color.
Moisture Surge is a gel-like moisturizer that leaves your skin hydrated and plumped. I use this product year round, so at times I find I need a bit more during the winter. If you find you have little white dots popping up, it is your skin producing extra oil. Be sure to moisturize!
Tip! Moisturizing sprays are awesome!! I am obsessed with the Caudalie spray. It is so refreshing and a must, it adds moisture back into your skin on the go.
A beauty blender helps to apply your foundation in a really natural, dewey way that allows your makeup to look fresh.
TIP! Use a finishing spray or even serum on your dampened beauty blender to add more moisture!
Light coverage foundation is a perfect option for the winter. And do not use tons of powder as it can gather in flakes, creases or lines. I also love the option of a mouse blush and liquid highlighter. This one is like a serum that you can blend in with your foundation for a subtle glowy look!
OK, I am obsessed with hot showers, but I do my best to avoid too hot of water that are long. And washing your hair too often is no good any time of the year. I’ve been testing a few different shampoos, but what never fails is to wash your hair less and be careful with your hot tools.
Aveeno skin relief body wash is rich and moisturizing. And I always use oil after the shower to lock in moisture and it has made a huge difference!
My husband’s hands were so bad they were bleeding! You guys, he started using this lotion (another ride or die!) and within two days they were completely healed. I am telling you, this lotion is a must. I use it all over my body year round!
For a little luxury, use these avocado hand masks!
